Justin’s Term I Project, PlayStation One

1. Why did you choose to enroll at Vertex School?

I was having a tough time finding work as a recent graduate from a two-year art university. The art university was a great experience, but I knew I had to specialize if I was going to get my foot in the door to the games industry. Spending two more years to get a BFA was too expensive and time-consuming. I’ve always wanted to see my dream of working in games realized, so after looking for alternatives, I doubled down and joined Vertex School to create environmental art for games! Right away, I knew I had my work cut out for me, as I was instantly immersed with a ton of professional knowledge and talented peers working hard to make the best art possible.

2. Why do you recommend Vertex over traditional /2-year or 4-year schools?

After finishing both college and Vertex School, I can confidently say that dedicating the time and hard work to Vertex School has been just as life-changing and rewarding as a traditional associate degree, with a much better value considering the price! I got a job offer a couple of weeks before I finished Vertex School thanks to the work I had posted in Term 2. In the current state of the industry where it’s highly competitive for juniors and seniors alike, getting a decent job offer seems insurmountable, yet it became entirely possible thanks to Vertex School!

3. How has your experience at Vertex School been?

My experience at Vertex School was great. The recorded course material comes with commentary and time-lapses that come from very skilled and knowledgeable artists who provide in-depth lessons on serious production pipelines. When beginners start 3D, it’s easy to get sidetracked by the amount of programs, workflows, styles, and processes. Vertex helped me narrow down my artistic path by providing me with valuable knowledge and a specific set of tools to create next-gen environments within Unreal Engine. Also, I became a huge fan of my instructor and peers, and the weekly live classes helped motivate me and keep me social during the grind.

4. Do you recommend Vertex School

If you’re looking for a game-art college alternative, go for Vertex! I was able to start living my dream with less financial risk, and made art I’m so proud of!
