Pursuing a Lifelong Dream

Game Development Program Student Interview with Brandon Sebastian

Are you considering joining a Vertex School career-ready program but are unsure if it’s the right fit for you? Today we introduce you to Game Development Program graduate, Brandon Sebastian. We interviewed Brandon on his overall experience at Vertex School and in the 30-week, online program. We hope this interview leaves you feeling inspired to pursue whatever it is that brings you joy!

  1. Why did you choose to enroll at Vertex School?

I chose Vertex School after spending a lot of time researching other online game design programs. I felt drawn to the idea of having current industry professionals educate and guide me through the process of bringing a lifelong dream of mine to reality. I was about halfway through a web design bootcamp when I realized web design was not for me and the idea of creating video games had always been a pipe dream of mine–until I found Vertex.

  1. Why do you recommend Vertex School over traditional 4-year schools?

Unlike traditional 4-year schools, Vertex doesn’t bog your learning down by forcing you to take classes or learn separate curriculums that have nothing to do with achieving your personal goals. Though it offers different course subjects, when you sign up to learn at Vertex you are given an in-depth education on ONE topic, all the way, from start to finish.  If you’re like me, and get easily side-tracked, this is the BEST way to learn.

  1. How has your experience at Vertex School been?

My experience with Vertex has been more like an epic journey, and one I will never forget.  In the beginning, I felt like a child wandering into the middle of a movie, and completely overwhelmed by the endless possibilities of making my own video game from scratch. But through my time here I have grown more confident and capable of things I didn’t think were possible. By the end, I was given a chance to give back to the next group of eager, and wide-eyed students as an Alumni Lab Technician for the newest Game Development Program. So all-in-all, FIVE STARS!

  1. Do you recommend Vertex School?

I would enthusiastically recommend Vertex School, over and over again. The absolute best part about being here, for me, is that I am surrounded by other people, every day, who are just as excited to be here as I am. From the students who share their creativity to the mentors who share their experience and wisdom, everyone I have interacted with WANTS to be here and WANTS to learn and be pushed to reach their potential. Like most things, it might not be for everyone out there, but if your heart is in gaming, and creating one-of-a-kind pieces of art, Vertex is THE place to be.
