We asked Vertex School alum, Noah Fischer, a few questions regarding his experience in our 30-week Unreal Engine Game Development Program!

In reference to the above video Noah writes, “For my third week with Vertex School’s Game Development Program, I was tasked with creating three materials; a master, a glass-type, and a layered material. I ended up building a whole new level and created almost all the surfaces that appear in the cinematic.”

Why did you choose to enroll at Vertex School?

After almost 6 years working in the creative marketing industry as a videographer, I decided to pursue my passion for game development.

Games have been a huge part of my life from an early age and I’ve seen friends and relatives create amazing careers for themselves in the industry.

During my search for a way to start learning, I discovered Vertex School’s Unreal Engine Game Development Program. It seemed to be an amazing way to quickly gain a deep understanding of many aspects of game development including programming, level and material creation, animation rigging, and more.

How was your experience at Vertex School?

I recently completed my 6-month tenure at Vertex, during which I successfully created two unique first-person action game demos. I’m so happy I chose Vertex School!

If you don’t want to commit to a four-year university, Vertex is an outstanding alternative that will expose you to different practices in game development, work with you in both group and one-on-one settings, and provide critical feedback on your projects from industry professionals.

People of all ages and experience levels in my cohort were able to share their work together and ultimately play test each others’ games at the end of each term. I continue to participate daily in Vertex’s community Discord where I have made friends, joined live events hosted by impressive guests from the industry, and gotten valuable career advice.

I would have nowhere near the experience level and confidence I have gained over the last 6 months had I not signed up for their Game Development Program.

Who do you recommend the Game Development Program to?

If you’re just starting out with no experience, looking to make a switch from say Game Art or Game Design, or just looking to enhance your existing Game Development experience, I highly recommend Vertex School.
